As chiropractors, we are not only specialists of the spine, but we also focus on biomechanics, neurology, and function. When muscles are tight, we know that stretching can help. But if we look at the bigger picture, we should be addressing the cause of the tightness/inflammation in the muscles so that we can take preventative action.

This is the same approach we take with corrective chiropractic care. We always ask “why is this problem or disruption of function happening?”, so that we can to the root of the problem and correct the cause before symptoms even start to show up.

An ideal spine and alignment is strong and moves efficiently. The spinal curvatures and vertebra are mechanically sound, which means that the surrounding soft tissue and muscles do not need to work harder to provide extra stability.

As a spine becomes subluxated, its mechanics and weight distribution shift. It becomes less and less stable, forcing our body to find stability elsewhere, instead of being able to rely on correct alignment. As a result, muscles and soft tissue become tighter, more rigid, and even inflamed.
Over time, the aging process of the spine, and ultimately the entire body will speed up. This means that degenerative conditions like arthritis or disc issues are much more likely to occur.
